Grimsholm enters alliance to pioneer Matter smart connectivity standard

Grimsholm Products AB today announces that it has joined the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), as well as the Thread group and Bluetooth SIG organisations, and will be involved in developing the specifications for the new Matter connectivity standard for smart homes and gardens.

The Matter standard is based on a shared belief between leading global technology companies that smart home devices should be secure, reliable and seamless to use. Building on proven networking technologies, Matter will standardise the way home and garden products communicate, with interoperability guaranteed through a certification program. Several major players in the smart home segment have already announced that their products will comply with the Matter standard as soon as it is launched later this year.

Grimsholm’s focus within the CSA is on bringing the Matter standard into garden products, and ensuring they integrate smoothly with the smart home.

“This standard means consumers will finally be able to buy smart devices from different suppliers and use them together in the same ecosystem – in the garden as well as the home. This is a game changer, and we are proud to be part of making it happen”, said Denniz Gustafsson, CEO of Grimsholm Products AB.

The CSA is well known as a unifying force in setting standards for the IoT industry. It has driven the introduction of several protocols, such as Zigbee, which are used in many smart devices today. Matter is expected to take over as the most widespread protocol.

“Grimsholm is a great addition to the Alliance. Now, Matter’s value can be extended, using the mesh network, from the home throughout the yard and garden,” said Chris LaPre, Head of Technology for Connectivity Standards Alliance. “As a fast-growing European garden retail brand, we are excited to have Grimsholm’s unique perspectives on Matter’s use in yet another new environment.”

Matter is planned for launch in late 2022, with the first compatible products to follow in-market thereafter and into 2023.
